The Moon and Venus

Post  Tobiejo on Fri Feb 27 2009, 23:28

What a beautiful site tonight just after dark. With the skies dark, a brilliant Cresent Moon hanging just right, Venus near by glowing in her beauty. It looked as if you could jump from the Moon onto Venus. Looking at them it's hard to realize the many miles away they are. Try looking tomorrow night if you missed it. Tobiejo sunny

I love the evening skies

Post  William on Sat Mar 07 2009, 20:21

I didn't get a chance to see this particular event, but I have gone out and to observe similar events.

I can find Orion, Canis Major, Cassiopeia, Capricornus, Sagittarius, Scorpius, Leo, Gemini, Taurus, The Big Dipper, the Little Dipper, the Milky Way, and the North Star with ease. The rest I have to locate using my star books each time. (Of course, certain ones of these can only be seen at certain times of the year).

I love how Scorpio and Capricorn look like two streams from the same fountain! I often feel inspired to write about this beautiful picture, but haven't decided how to go with it yet. Very Happy

Cold winters make for clear nights! The mosquitoes are gone when the freezing temperatures reign. The stars are like diamonds in the sky on these winter nights. So, I think I am more apt to star gaze in the winter than in the summer.

I have fought with telescopes and found them to be fussy, hard to aim, and hard to stabilize. However, I have found my binoculars to be real handy when looking at the sky. They may not come close to the same magnification as a telescope, but they are so much easier to use.
