...Biumph! Empty ...Biumph!

Biumph!

I drift into an easy rhythm,
not needing top speed yet,
then as the clock shows
my chosen starting time,
I am up to speed,
darting down an unavoidable side path,
fending off an attack,
shaking off temptation,
yielding for a time to another,
working my way back to track,
touching an unlisted checkpoint
just because I'm here,
fighting back to the main way,
hurdling and dodging,
putting out brush fires,
weakening, fading, furious, rallying,
digging in with renewed determination,
shaking off heartache at paths not taken,
still hoping, still fearing, still trying,
grimly taking one more detour
as my newly assigned course --
until detoured again from the detour --
feeling the strain, feeling the pain,
trying to recall the main, once plain;
try not to heed, but must meet a need,
can't get ahead, dreaming of bed,
thirteenth-round dazed, truly amazed
at obstacles never imagined, and then,
with one desperate last push,
the sun going down,
I stagger and fall,
heroic and spent,
across the starting line
of my plans for the day --
plans now far away.

But then, sometimes,
I have bad days, too.
You?

...Biumph! Empty I researched it

Post  Dan Ellsworth Wed Mar 18 2009, 10:38

You got the mood of it, I see. It was just a matter of gathering what some of my days have felt like, and maybe even getting inspired by my own frustration. This writing probably gathers from several days, not just one, but is otherwise not exaggerated. So, as I put it, it was researched. Crossing my personal "starting line" as evening starts, though, has happened. Am I chattering? Good to hear from you.
